Frequently Asked Questions
Where do we meet during session?
All sessions are conducted via telehealth platforms with clients who are in Texas, Montana, and Oregon. Each client will have their own link to a secure and private video chat. This makes it easier and more convenient to meet.
Are Telehealth sessions as effective as in person?
Yes! Telehealth sessions are as effective as in-person sessions. Since 2020 there have been many studies that demonstrate this effectiveness.
Do you accept insurance?
While many people rely on insurance to cover medical costs, I have seen how insurances limit access to mental health care. Many insurances cover a small number of sessions per year that is well below the number of sessions the client actually needs. Most insurances will not cover the costs of couple and marriage therapy without cost risk to the clients and therapist. Many insurance companies practice claw backs for past reimbursements. And insurances require all personal client information, notes, and diagnoses be sent to the insurance companies for review before reimbursing session payments. All these leave the client at risk to accumulated unexpected medical debt that is above what most people can comfortably manage.
I do not accept insurances and instead I offer sliding scale fees for private pay clients. My lower fees are reserved for those in need. I strive to offer fees to fit your budget while still providing the highest level of care. I also provide SuperBills for clients to submit to their insurance companies so they can attempt to collect reimbursement themselves. This way mental health costs are predictable and affordable.
How long are therapy sessions?
Sessions are 50 minutes long.
How long does therapy take?
This depends one many factors: the work you want to accomplish, how complicated presenting issues are, if you are willing to work on issues between sessions, and others. People typically see their therapist for 6 months to a year. Of course, some attend a shorter time and some longer. Therapy is as effective as you are willing to put in the work.
How do I know we are a good fit to work together?
Our first session is an assessment session. During this session we talk about presenting issues and what you are hoping to accomplish. This helps me determine that I am qualified to work with you according to my skillset. I then share how I do therapy to see if that seems like a good fit for you. If at the end of our session we both feel it is a good fit, I will schedule you for weekly session and we continue to assess fit throughout our work. If at any time you begin to feel we are not a good fit, I am happy to help you find a therapist that fits better. My goal is for you to find the best therapist for you.
How often will we meet?
Initially we will meet weekly. We will periodically reassess frequency throughout our work together. If you begin to feel you need bi-weekly, we will discuss the appropriateness based on your needs and decide together.
Do you advocate for marginalized populations?
Yes. I am dedicated to anti-racist, anti-bias work. I advocate for marginalized populations in society. I am LGBTQIA2S+ allied. I am body acceptance allied, and an advocate for disabled persons. I am ethical non-monogamy allied as well as sex positive and kink allied. I am HIV/AIDs allied. I have done much work for inclusion in my practice, through awareness of my own biases, attending trainings, attending social justice movements, and advocating for policy changes.
How much does a session cost?
My fee for a session currently is $195. This fee is subject to periodic changes.
How do I set up an appointment?
Please contact me to set up a phone screen and request an appointment.
Cancellation policy?
I request 24 hours notice for appointment cancellations, otherwise I charge the full fee for that session. The reason for this is because I put a lot of work into my clients. I prepare before each session and review cases in their entirety prior to session during my planning for those sessions. In addition, I attend trainings and consultations to ensure my clients are receiving the best therapy I can offer.
Do you consult with other therapists
Consultation is a common practice among therapists. I regularly consult with colleagues each week, as well as attend multiple Continued Education Unit (CEU) trainings each year. This allows me to provide the best therapy practices to my clients.
