Frequently Asked Questions
Where do we meet during session?
All sessions are conducted via secure telehealth platforms for clients located in Texas, Montana, and Oregon. Each client receives a private, HIPAA-compliant video link. Telehealth makes therapy accessible, convenient, and flexible for busy schedules.
Are Telehealth sessions as effective as in person?
Yes. Research conducted since 2020 consistently shows that telehealth is just as effective as in-person therapy for most therapeutic needs. Many clients even prefer it for comfort, flexibility, and reduced travel time.
Do you accept insurance?
I do not accept insurance. In my experience, insurance companies often limit access to quality mental health care by:
Restricting the number of sessions allowed per year
Refusing to cover couples or marriage counseling
Requiring diagnoses and detailed clinical information before approving reimbursement
Conducting “clawbacks,” where they reclaim payments months later
Creating unpredictable out-of-pocket costs for clients
Instead, I offer sliding-scale private pay options for those with financial need, allowing therapy to remain predictable, confidential, and fully tailored to your goals.
I also provide Superbills for clients who wish to seek out-of-network reimbursement independently.
How long are therapy sessions?
Sessions are 50 minutes long.
How long does therapy take?
The length of therapy varies depending on your goals, the complexity of your concerns, and how much work you engage in between sessions. Many clients attend therapy for 6–12 months, while some benefit from shorter-term work and others attend longer. Therapy is most effective when you are actively engaged and committed to growth.
How do I know we are a good fit to work together?
Our first session is an assessment session. We will explore your concerns, what you hope to accomplish, and whether my skillset and therapeutic approach align with your needs.
If we both feel it’s a good fit, we will schedule ongoing weekly sessions. Fit is reassessed throughout our work, and if at any point you feel another therapist might serve you better, I will gladly help you connect with someone who does. My priority is that you receive the care that best supports you.
Do you work with Clients in Crisis?
I support clients who may be experiencing periods of acute emotional distress within the scope of outpatient therapy. During initial consultations and throughout our work together, I assess safety and level of care.
If a client’s needs indicate that a higher level of support would be more appropriate—such as inpatient, intensive outpatient, or specialized services—I will discuss this openly and help facilitate referrals. My priority is ensuring clients receive care that is safe, ethical, and appropriate for their needs.
How often will we meet?
We typically begin with weekly sessions, as this is the most effective pace for building momentum and supporting progress. Over time, we may reassess and adjust frequency together based on your needs, goals, and readiness for biweekly or maintenance work.
Do you advocate for marginalized populations?
Yes. I am dedicated to anti-racist, anti-bias, and inclusive clinical practice. I am allied with LGBTQIA2S+ individuals, neurodivergent clients, people in larger bodies, disabled persons, and those practicing ethical non-monogamy, as well as sex-positive and kink-affirming communities.
I am also supportive of clients living with HIV/AIDS.
I actively engage in ongoing training, consultation, and social justice work to ensure my practice remains ethical, affirming, and culturally responsive.
How much does a session cost?
My fee for a session currently is $195. Fees are subject to periodic adjustment and will always be communicated in advance. I also offer need-based sliding scale options, so please feel free to ask about reduced-fee availability if cost is a concern.
How do I set up an appointment?
Please contact me to schedule a brief phone consultation and request an appointment. This helps us determine initial fit and gives you the opportunity to ask any questions.
Cancellation policy?
I request 24 hours’ notice for cancellations. Late cancellations or missed appointments are billed at the full session fee.
This is because each session requires preparation, case review, and ongoing professional training to ensure clients receive the highest quality care.
Do you consult with other therapists?
Yes. Consultation is a standard and ethical practice in the mental health field. I participate in weekly consultation with trusted colleagues and complete multiple Continuing Education (CEU) trainings each year. This helps ensure that my clients receive informed, up-to-date, and effective care.
